How to spend 48 hours in London

Two days, no rush. A gentle route through markets, museums and the quieter corners we love.

Forty-eight hours is not long enough to see London, and it is a mistake to try. Pick a couple of neighbourhoods, walk between them and leave room for whatever you stumble across.

Day one

Start with breakfast near a market, then spend the morning in one of the free museums. After lunch, walk along the river as the light drops and find somewhere warm for dinner.

Day two

  1. Coffee and pastries in a quiet square
  2. A morning in a park, whatever the weather
  3. An afternoon of bookshops and galleries
  4. An early supper before the train home
When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.
-Samuel Johnson

Keep a few pages free for the places you did not plan. They are nearly always the ones you remember.
