Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to design, buy and read here — whatever device, settings or assistive technology they use. This is where we stand, including where we fall short.

Last updated 19 October 2026

What we aim for

We are working to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across this website. In practice that means you should be able to:

  • use every page with a keyboard alone, and always see where you are on the page;
  • use a screen reader, with pages that have proper headings, labelled form fields and pictures described in words;
  • zoom to 400% or change text size without losing content;
  • read text with enough contrast against its background;
  • turn off movement — the site follows your device’s “reduce motion” setting;
  • skip straight past the navigation to the content of any page.

How accessible the site is

We believe most of the site — the home page, the Journal, the shop, the basket, returns and these policy pages — largely meets that standard. We say “believe” because our checks so far have been our own: a review of the site against WCAG 2.2 AA in September 2026, and the fixes that came out of it. It has not yet been audited by an independent specialist or tested by disabled people, and we expect that to find things we have missed.

What we know falls short

  • The Studio, where you design a Companion, is the most visual part of the site and is still being improved. Keyboard focus is not yet clearly visible on every control, and it has not been tested with screen readers. If any part of it gets in your way, write to us and we will take your design and order by email instead.
  • Smart Refills capture asks you to drag the four corners of a photographed page into place by touch. There is no keyboard alternative yet.
  • Card details at checkout are typed into fields Stripe provides, in a secure frame inside our page. We choose how they look but do not control how they are built; Stripe publishes its own accessibility commitments.
  • Pictures in the Journal are described by whoever writes each post. If you find one without a useful description, tell us and we will add it.

If something doesn’t work for you

Email hello@cartelle.co.uk and a person will reply — we aim to within five working days. Tell us the page and what went wrong, and what you use to browse if you are happy to. If you need anything on this site in a different format, or would rather order by email, ask and we will arrange it.

If you are not happy with our reply, the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) can advise on your rights under the Equality Act 2010.

About this statement

We wrote this statement on 29 September 2026 and will review it at least once a year, and whenever we fix one of the problems above or find a new one.
